AFC Bournemouth are among the clubs to have shown keen interest in signing Stade Rennais’ Lorenz Assignon in the winter market.

The right-back has managed two goals and two assists from 21 games this season, but hasn’t made an appearance for over a month now.

L’Equipe state the Ligue 1 side have told the 21-year-old that they no longer count on him and this would please Bournemouth.

Rennes signed Alidu Seidu earlier this month and also have Guéla Doué for the right-back position.

The Frenchman lost prominence after the French club appointed Julien Stéphan as Bruno Génésio’s successor in November. The manager has made it clear that Assignon is not in his plans, and Rennes are ready to part ways with him.

Bournemouth are keen and would offer a loan deal with an option to buy to secure the Frenchman’s services. Marseille are also interested but the two clubs are finding it difficult to carry out the deal because of Rennes’ demands.

Assignon’s deal lasts until 2027 and L’Equipe say Rennes are requesting €10m. The report adds Andoni Iraola’s side aren’t interested in carrying out a deal for this price.

Unless Rennes lower their demands, he’s unlikely to join the Cherries. Time is running out for Assignon and his club to find a solution
