German police have sent a warning to Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund fans ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash and a potential ‘bottleneck’.

That’s according to Der Westen, who say the authorities have ‘urgent advice for all fans’ ahead of the group stage clash between the two sides.

The newspaper explains that there are concerns ahead of the clash, with the expected 80,000 fans meaning things will ‘get tight’.

That’s something Borussia Dortmund fans have ‘long been used to’ and adapted to accordingly but that’s naturally not the case for Newcastle’s supporters.

So, police have warned that any fans who don’t arrive on time for the clash ‘risk missing kick-off’ as midweek games usually cause delays thanks to all fans arriving at once.

Admission controls at Dortmund ‘regularly become a bottleneck’ in the 60–90-minute period before games and the queues can reach ‘astronomical lengths’ as a result.

Thus, police have moved to warn Newcastle fans of that fact, urging them to arrive at the stadium early around 5pm, Germany time, to ensure they don’t miss kick-off and get caught up in the inevitable queues.

With it being an early kick-off tonight, the transport situation is also expected to be worse, with fans clashing with the time commuters normally travel.

Whether any of the travelling Magpies fanbase heed those warnings remains to be seen but it’s a proactive move from the German authorities, particularly given how English fans are usually treated while travelling abroad for games.
