If Rennes’ Wednesday training session, a day before the clash against Tottenham, is anything to go by, then the Ligue 1 side will be without three important players.

That comes from France Bleu Armorique journalist François Gauzy, who reports that Birger Meling, Flavien Tait and Jérémy Doku were absent.

While the young Belgian has been fighting with injuries throughout the campaign so far, he had returned, but was unable to make the weekend game against Saint-Etienne, and looks set to miss Thursday’s fixture.

There was hope Tait would be fit for the game, but that doesn’t appear to be the case, meaning that Rennes are likely to field a weakened team against Tottenham.

That will be good news for Spurs, who need the three points, as they are currently second in the group on goal difference, and are also expected to face a first-time centre-back pairing in the process.

Ouest-France are reporting that Loïc Badé and Warmed Omari will be put there, since this is a ‘free’ game for the Ligue 1 side, who have already won the group.

This is because the club needs to prepare for Nayef Aguerd’s departure for the Africa Cup of Nations, so this match against Tottenham will be a good opportunity to try something new without facing any consequences.

All this is something Antonio Conte will need to take advantage of despite a Covid-19 cluster at the club, all the while hoping that Vitesse don’t beat Mura by too many goals
