Despite wanting to be on the pitch this weekend to play against Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers signing Santiago Bueno was unable to do that.

He didn’t even make the squad, but that hasn’t stopped him from being called up to represent his country during the current international break by Marcelo Bielsa.

He already has two caps to his name with the first-team, and wants to add to that, speaking to ESPN about it, as well as his move to Wolves late in the window.

The 24-year-old was brought to Molineux to help bolster Gary O’Neil’s defence, and it remains to be seen if this is something he will do well, but that’s the aim.

For him, it’s an exciting time, having established himself as a key player at Girona over the past four years, wanting to do the same at Wolves.

He said: “It’s a big step for my career and a nice challenge. Now, I’m obviously happy to be in Uruguay representing the national team and I hope to make my debut in the best way in the qualifiers.”

Wolves spent €12m to get him from Girona, making him the Spanish side’s record sale in the process, despite him having a €25m release clause in his contract with the La Liga club.
