Chilean newspaper La Cuarta have been reporting on Manuel Pellegrini to West Ham for weeks.

They’re proud of their compatriot and love continually pointing out that Pellegrini took Manchester City further in the Champions League than Pep Guardiola has so far managed.

It’s good for the Chilean media to have their man back in European football, away from the relative obscurity of the Chinese game.

What seems to have most impressed La Cuarta is how much West Ham are paying Pellegrini. With the wage put at $10m in Chile, it’s explained that’s more than double what all the managers in the country’s top division make.

That West Ham would make the Chilean the third highest paid coach in the Premier League is a source of pride, but there’s no escaping the task Pellegrini has on hand.

For days, the Chilean media have been explaining ‘working class club’ West Ham to their readers, and a big part of that is the lack of success.

Something Mauricio Pellegrini has been brought in to change.
