Marcelo Bielsa, most recently of Leeds United fame, seems set to finally take his first job after his departure from Elland Road.

It’s been a while since the Uruguayan media started claiming that the coach has opened talks to take charge of the national team, and even though it took some time for the white smoke, this saga shouldn’t last that much longer.

ESPN journalist Diego Munoz now writes on Twitter that there’s an agreement ‘on all items’ between Bielsa and the Uruguayan national team.

It’s claimed that the former Leeds boss will receive the contract on Tuesday, and have the ‘last touches’ with his lawyers. It’s said the signature should be made by the end of the week.

According to Munoz, putting the ink on paper is really the only thing stopping Bielsa from becoming Uruguay’s new manager indeed.

The 67-year-old has been unemployed since his departure from Leeds in February 2022. In his time in charge of the Whites, he had a record of 81 wins, 30 draws and 59 defeats in 170 games.

This is the third national team Bielsa is taking charge of, following his jobs at Argentina and Chile.
