Despite being the second striker behind Erling Haaland at Manchester City, Julián Álvarez always seems to have an impact when he comes on or starts.

That’s why he’s such a useful player for Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, and the cost of €23m to get him from River Plate has been entirely justified.

However, this is also the reason why clubs such as Real Madrid, according to Sport, are keen on signing him to bolster their own squad.

The Spanish side were keen on getting him even before Manchester City swooped in, but with them wanting Kylian Mbappé as well, they got ‘distracted’.

That being said, there is still hope in Madrid that a deal can eventually take place, and ‘a door could open’ if Guardiola’s side ‘end up signing’ Evan Ferguson.

The Brighton striker has taken the Premier League by storm in these early days of the new campaign, and rumours have start swirling that Manchester City would be willing to pay €110m for him.

That seems a but much, but if there is truth to it all, the market value of €60m on Álvarez could lead to Real Madrid knocking on the door.

Despite all this, Mbappé remains the ‘priority objective’, but if they cannot sign him on a free next season, Madrid will have to ‘start looking for alternatives’.

This means the Manchester City striker is a ‘plan B’ for the French star, but there is a chance he ‘could leave’ if Ferguson is signed and Haaland renews, at which point Real Madrid ‘would be waiting for him’.
