Barcelona believe that Manchester City are the ‘best placed’ club to sign Erling Haaland this summer as the race for his signature heats up.

That’s according to COPE, who are backed up by Mundo Deportivo, the latter stating that Haaland finds the offer from Manchester City ‘very attractive’.

COPE explain that Barcelona are battling to sign Haaland this summer in a deal that would cost around €250m in transfer fees, wages and agent fees.

That’s a huge amount for any club, particularly one as financially stretched as Barcelona, but if they were to close a financial agreement with CVC, they could have the funds to make it happen.

Until that point getting Haaland will be tough, and so they believe that Manchester City are the ‘best placed’ club to sign the striker.

Mundo back this up, stating that while Barcelona are ‘working hard’ to sign Haaland, they believe City are ‘more advanced’ in the race.

According to their information, Pep Guardiola’s presence at the Etihad is a big ‘attraction’ for Haaland, and he finds Manchester City’s offer ‘very attractive’ because of him.

While they feel that the player is more motivated to play in La Liga than the Premier League, Guardiola could tip the scales in his club’s favour.

There is the chance that PSG could enter the fray, although it’s said they are currently focused on trying to get Robert Lewandowski.

That would add further competition for the striker and another club that could more comfortably spend the €250m Barcelona estimate it will cost overall.

At the moment, they think Haaland is likely to join Manchester City, but they will do their best to convince him otherwise and pull off a deal they’d consider a major success.
