Leeds United are in the relegation battle for the second season in a row.

A 2-1 win over Brentford in the final league game of last season helped the Whites finish in the 17th spot. Raphinha opened the scoring before Jack Harrison scored the late winner to seal crucial three points in May 2022.

Raphinha left them for Barcelona last summer and this has ‘ruined’ Leeds’ campaign this season. That’s according to Sport, who add his exit was a ‘bitter pill’ for the supporters of the English club.

The Whites earned €58m from the winger’s sale to the La Liga side and also sold Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City for around €49m.

Jesse Marsch was in charge at Elland Road last summer, when Leeds carried out a total revolution in the squad.

In the last two transfer windows, the Premier League side signed several players with ‘little experience in elite’, which has not worked work out for them, and that’s why Sport point out they are ‘clearly in decline’.

Leeds currently sit in the table’s 17th spot, level on points with 18th placed Nottingham Forest.

They now have four games to avoid relegation and Sam Allardyce has been appointed as the manager for these fixtures in a gamble Andrea Radrizzani will hope will pay off.
