Newcastle United can sign defender Kevin Danso for as little as €20m this summer, with him continuing to impress at RC Lens.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the defender is the ‘symbol of the solidity’ at the French club and has picked up many suitors as a result.

They explain that after taking a little time to adjust to Ligue 1 the defender is now considered one of the best specialists in the position and has been a key player in Lens impressive campaign so far.

He is ‘bound to be coveted’ in the summer market, when it is believed that offers for him will be numerous.

The scouts of Europe’s biggest clubs are not missing a beat when it comes to him and Newcastle have already been brought into the mix, with a report last month stating they could go on the offensive to secure his signature.

Their hopes of doing a deal were boosted by the fact Danso was dreaming of a return to the Premier League after an unsuccessful spell at Southampton earlier in his career.

Foot Mercato now say he could be available for €20m, a more than affordable price given his contract expires in 2026. Austrian journalist Peter Linden, meanwhile, instead says he will be ‘very, very expensive’.

Whether Newcastle are willing to pay what it takes remains to be seen but with Saudi Arabia’s funding and potential Champions League money as well, it’s unlikely to be a figure to make them concerned if they are as keen on Danso as has been claimed.
