Back in January, reports coming out of France stated Newcastle United showed interest in signing RC Lens’ Kevin Danso in the winter market.

The Magpies didn’t carry out a deal for the defender in the last window, but are still in the picture to sign him.

That’s according to Jeunes Footeux, who explain Newcastle are one of his suitors for the summer.

The centre-back has started in every league fixture for the Ligue 1 side this season, managing a goal and an assist in the process. His form has drawn attention from other European clubs and it’s not certain the 24-year-old will be at Lens beyond the next window.

That’s because the Austria international is of interest to more and more clubs and ‘particularly Newcastle’.

It’s claimed Eddie Howe’s side could ‘go on the offensive’ to secure Danso’ services in the summer, and the former Southampton man is not ‘unmoved’ by the idea of returning to the Premier League.

Faced with the possibility of losing Danso to Newcastle, Lens have identified Darmstadt’s Patric Pfeiffer as a target to replace the Austrian.
