The Dutch media has now been making a straight comparison between Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville and Liverpool’s new signing Cody Gakpo.

That happens following the Premier League clash between the Whites and Manchester United at the weekend.

The local press had an eye on the match because it had three Dutch players involved, and the 21-year-old ended up being the one drawing the biggest attention.

On Voetbal International, Süleyman Öztürk started by praising Summerville and claiming he doesn’t need a specific manager to stand out.

“He’s really an action football player. He was now on the right side, but I have also seen him play on the left and through the centre. He does create danger and that was the signal for Erik ten Hag in the second half to convert it. Ten Hag also saw that it would become a problem,” wrote Öztürk on Voetbal International (via FC Update).

“I have the idea that it doesn’t matter much to him who is a coach, as long as a ball comes his way.”

Öztürk then talked about what Summerville can offer to the national team, and that’s where he compared him to Gakpo, saying Liverpool’s €42m signing may not show the same qualities for Ronald Koeman’s side.

“If Gakpo has Oranje potential, then this boy has that too. In potential he’s a much better football player than Gakpo. Summerville plays football much easier. That is not a very strange statement, you know.”

“In this case I think that very many people agree with me. If you compare those two when you give them the ball and see what happens then, then you can really give the ball to Summerville much better than to Gakpo. With Gakpo little happens, because he needs a team that functions well.”

Featuring for Leeds this season, Summerville had four goals and one assist in 17 appearances.

Gakpo had been doing great for PSV, with 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 games, but is actually having a slower start for Liverpool, as he failed to score or assist in his first six matches for the Reds so far.
