Over the past month or so, we’ve seen a number of different outlets in France claim that Aston Villa are keen on Angers’ Baptiste Santamaria.
L’Equipe in early June stated the Villains were ‘serious’ on the defensive midfielder, which was echoed a few weeks later by Yahoo! Sport.
Now we have RMC Sport confirming this, explaining that both Lazio and Aston Villa have ‘positioned’ themselves for the 24-year-old, as have Champions League club Lille.
Santamaria is said to want to ‘go up a level’ in his career after a good season with Angers, even if he does love his current club.
So far, the Ligue 1 side haven’t fixed a price tag for their star midfielder, who is under contract with them until 2022, as they simply wait to see what clubs offer before working out values.
It’s worth pointing out that Le10 Sport were the first to reveal Aston Villa were interested in Santamaria, doing so as early as December, as well as keeping an eye on Nimes winger Sada Thioub.
