In February, we covered claims from Spain which stated Unai Emery has ‘demanded’ Aston Villa move for Isi Palazon in the summer window.

The 28-year-old has played mainly on the right wing for Rayo Vallecano this season, and in 25 La Liga matches he’s scored six goals and added five assists.

Palazon has a contract lasting until June 2025, so Rayo Vallecano are under no pressure to sell him. When the Emery demands were first reported it was stated the player would likely cost Aston Villa around €20m, which is a fee easily within their reach.

A sensible looking signing for Emery, which would provide Aston Villa with another attacking option whilst not eating into the Premier League club’s budget too much.

The problem could arise when it comes to convincing the player. Sunday’s edition of Marca has an interview with the Rayo Vallecano player, and he’s asked directly about leaving the club.

Marca then quote Palazon as saying: “I am very happy in Madrid, I love it as a city. My partner works here, I have my people, my family comes often… I don’t see myself in another club.”

A lot of Rayo Vallecano’s success is down to manager Andoni Iraola. If he were to leave in the summer, as many expect, then maybe Palazon’s stance will change.
