One of the biggest spenders of this summer’s Premier League transfer window, Aston Villa still aren’t done if claims from France are to be believed.

Long linked with a move for Angers’ Baptiste Santamaria, dating back to last December when Le10 Sport brought it to everyone’s attention, the Villains have now had a bid rejected.

According to L’Equipe, Dean Smith’s side put forward a €7m offer for the defensive midfielder, which was deemed insufficient by the Ligue 1 club.

There’s no indication at how much the French side value their player, but as pointed out in a previous article, they don’t tend to place set prices on their footballers, simply waiting to see what clubs offer before making a decision.

Clearly they value Santamaria at more than €7m, and we’ll have to see whether Aston Villa feel he’s worth the extra money, or if they turn their attention elsewhere.

The defensive midfielder was pretty much ever-present in Ligue 1 for Angers last year, making 38 appearances and scoring one goal.
