Over the past few months, it’s become clear that Arsenal have been the frontrunners when it comes to the race to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk.

There has been a lot of talk of Mikel Arteta wanting the player in January, but the Ukrainian side won’t let him go for cheap.

On top of that, there is competition, with Newcastle United in the mix, as they look to continue their great run of form that took them to third in the Premier League just before the World Cup break.

Whether they spend heavily in January remains to be seen, but there will surely be some reinforcements coming in for Eddie Howe, who will want to ensure the Magpies don’t drop down the table.

The news of Newcastle pushing for Mudryk comes from French journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who took to Twitter to reveal the latest on the situation.

He states that Arsenal are ‘keeping in contact’ for a possible transfer of the Ukraine international, but the whole affair remains ‘among the more complicated’.

Discussions ‘did continue last week’, but they are aware there are others clubs keen, with ‘competition from Newcastle, notably’.

One to keep an eye on, with recent reports claiming the player could be sold for as little as €35m, despite claims from Shakhtar they would want far more for their star.
