Arsenal are keen on a deal for Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic this summer, with Mikel Arteta keen to avoid losing on him as he did Dusan Vlahovic.

That’s according to Serbian newspaper Blic, who say the Arsenal boss wants to get a deal over the line if he can.

Real Madrid are determined to get rid of Jovic and his €100,000 a week wages off the books this summer as they look to free up funds ahead of major moves in the transfer window.

The Serbian striker has continued to slide down the pecking order since Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival at the club, pushing him closer towards the exit door and the end of his disastrous spell in Spain.

Madrid are looking for €30m but would sanction a loan deal if necessary, so desperate are they to get Jovic off of the books.

Arsenal are one of the clubs who are interested in a deal, having ‘renewed their interest’ from the past.

They need a striker this summer after selling Pierre Emerich Aubameyang to Barcelona, while they also look likely to lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah on free transfers at the end of the season.

Arteta believes that Jovic has the potential to become Arsenal’s ‘new goal machine’, and he wants to avoid the mistake they made with Vlahovic.

He was a player they were extremely keen on, and they were sure he ‘would accept their initiative’, but in the end, he elected to go to Juventus instead.

Getting Jovic should prove an easier task given his situation in Madrid, but there is competition for his signature, so they may have to move quickly.
