Arsenal are one of several admirers for Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz following his impressive return to form this season.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the Spaniard’s contract situation has led to worries in Naples.

Ruiz has been one of Napoli’s key players under Luciano Spalletti this season, with a tally of five goals and three assists in Serie A, earning him plenty of plaudits.

Napoli naturally want to keep him long-term, but there is an issue regarding his contract, which expires in 2023 and is thus causing ‘a bit of apprehension’.

There is ‘no certainty’ that the midfielder will extend his deal, particularly as the new policy for Napoli in terms of wages creates ‘many difficulties’ when it comes to renewals.

At the minute, discussions with Ruiz are ‘frozen’, and without a new agreement, Aurelio De Laurentiis will be forced to listen to the various offers that could arrive.

Ruiz has a ‘big market’ in the Premier League, with Arsenal and Manchester United, as well as Newcastle all keen. The latter were given a no in the January transfer window.

Their interest and Manchester United’s is well known, but Arsenal is new. It makes a lot of sense, with reports over the last month or so making it clear Mikel Arteta wants to sign another midfielder moving forwards.

Ruiz would fit the bill and be an impressive recruit, but should they move; they’ll need to convince him, with it made clear that the player’s preference is to return to Spain and play for Barcelona or Real Madrid.
