Arsenal are reportedly interested in Flamengo youngster Matheus Gonçalves.

The Gunners’ chase for the 17-year-old is revealed by journalist Jorge Nicola, who, on YouTube, has been speaking of the big potential the winger has.

Nicola claims Arsenal are ‘keeping an eye’ on the teenager and ‘promise’ to make a bid in the coming days. It’s said the club’s idea is to take him to England ‘as soon as possible’.

Gonçalves turns 18 in August, and that means he’d be able to complete a move to a Premier League side in the next transfer window.

The report just doesn’t say how much Arsenal are willing to spend on the player, even though it’s pointed out that he’s protected by a huge release clause worth €100m.

The journalist points out he’d been speaking to former Flamengo manager Dorival Junior, and the coach has big belief in Gonçalves’ potential, claiming he’s the biggest gem coming through the club’s academy.

For now, the winger only has 11 appearances for the first team, and is the third-youngest player ever to score a goal for the Rio de Janeiro side.
