AS report Lucas Torreira will not be continuing with Atletico Madrid, following his loan move from Arsenal. The Uruguayan had hoped he could find the same happiness in Spanish football that he’d enjoyed in Serie A, but was unable to convince Diego Simeone enough.

There can’t be arguments, given Atletico won La Liga, and AS insist the midfielder gave all he had. They state the Arsenal owned player ‘won the love of the dressing room’, and whilst he wasn’t given an awful lot of chances, when Simeone did dish out minutes, Torreira left everything he had on the pitch.

The arrival of Geoffrey Kondogbia, who Atletico were able to sign outside of the window because Arsenal triggered the release clause for Thomas Partey on deadline day, put an end to Torreira’s chances of a major role.

It’s no secret that the Arsenal man would like a return to South America, to be closer to his family, yet recent flirting with Boca Juniors hasn’t seen the Argentine club tempted into making an effort.
