One of the stories that has continued to trundle along in the south of France has been that of Marseille’s interest in Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares.

The problem is, as reported previously, the Portuguese defender isn’t overly keen at the idea of moving to the Ligue 1 club despite his teammate William Saliba enjoying a great campaign there last season.

This has forced Pablo Longoria to move on from the Arsenal player to other targets, such as Hellas Verona’s Darko Lazović.

Tavares, though, was approached by Marseille, who had ‘long hoped to attract him’ to the south of France, according to La Provence.

However, when they talked to him, he let them know he had ‘no intention of coming’, and that the challenge presented by the French club ‘didn’t interest him’.

A surprising stance, considering Marseille will be in the Champions League next season, compared to Arsenal’s upcoming Europa League campaign, and that Oleksandr Zinchenko appears to be on his way to the Emirates to create even more competition in Mikel Arteta’s squad for him.

To each their own, though.
