La Liga side Club Athletic Bilbao are reportedly hopeful they could sign Nacho Monreal from Arsenal in the next summer transfer window. That’s after about three years of hoping the same thing.

The 31-year-old is an old desire for the Spanish club, and despite having signed a new contract in London last year, it won’t stop them from trying. The Bilbao club are almost duty bound to try and sign Monreal every summer, given they can only recruit Basque players.

According to AS, Athletic consider it a matter of convincing the player, just like they did with Raul Garcia when signing him from Atletico Madrid. After many failed attempts, AS claim Arsenal are now ready to ‘sit and talk’ about a potential deal.

With 30 appearances this season, Nacho Monreal has been Arsene Wenger’s number one choice for the left-back position. So Arsenal may sit and talk, but we reckon it’s unlikely they will make it easy for such an important player to leave.

That is, unless they have a plan to bring someone else in.
