Claims are building in the Spanish media about Real Madrid interest in Pau Torres. The defender has become a regular for Spain, and with Sergio Ramos not able to continue forever, signing someone who could be the future of his country’s defence isn’t a bad track to take.

Other clubs have also been linked with Pau Torres, and that’s the case with Arsenal today. El Periodico Mediterraneo say that Barcelona and Mikel Arteta’s side have been interested in the player, although it’s now thought Madrid have pushed ahead of those two.

Should Arsenal want to return for the defender then it’s not going to be a cheap operation. According to the report, Villarreal are pointing to the player’s €50m release clause, which they clearly, and perhaps reasonably, feel is a fair price for the 23-year-old.

That would have to be paid in one go, with the clause being triggered. Whilst that would be difficult for Arsenal, it’s something they’ve shown a willingness to do in the past, with the purchase of Thomas Partey the example.

Real Madrid would rather use players as part-payment, and some claims in Spain have suggested Dani Ceballos would be an option. The midfielder is currently on loan at Arsenal, with no buying option.

However, Villarreal aren’t thought to be willing to accept players as part of any deal.
