It’s ‘very likely’ that Arsenal will make a bid for Sporting starlet Joelson this week, according to claims from the Portuguese press.

Newspaper A Bola says the Gunners will soon be making an attempt to sign the 17-year-old. And that could happen before the Lions’ game against Vitória de Setúbal on Tuesday night.

The outlet claims that Arsenal want to move before the likes of Barcelona and Juventus, especially because they’re tired of losing races for Sporting players.

It’s said the London side had the chance to sign talents such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes in the past, and now don’t want to miss the chance once again.

Joelson is protected by a release clause of €45m, and that’s the only way Arsenal could take him out of Sporting without going through fierce negotiations.

A Bola doesn’t say how much the Gunners will offer for the youngster, but they write that triggering the release clause is something they could do.

Joelson has just been promoted to Sporting’s first team, and has only three appearances among the professionals so far.
