As Arsenal continue to be linked to Benfica centre-forward Darwin Nunez, the latest claims on this chase now come from South America.

Outlet Traspasos now writes on Twitter that the Gunners have indeed joined the ‘candidates’ to sign the Eagles’ star.

It’s said Arsenal are looking for players who are ‘young but proven’, and Darwin Nunez ‘perfectly meets’ that criteria.

The report adds it won’t be easy to take him from Benfica, as the Eagles have put a price of €80m for his exit.

Arsenal’s pursuit for Darwin had been reported by the English media last week, with the claims being then backed up by the Portuguese media, who claimed the Gunners had indeed started a ‘charm offensive’ to land him.

With 26 goals scored this season so far, the striker is expected to be a target for several European sides this summer.

Benfica have him protected by a €150m release clause, and will certainly play hardball to get a huge fee from his sale, whether it be to Arsenal or somewhere else.
