As Everton close in on signing Santiago Sosa from River Plate, it becomes clear that the Buenos Aires side are happy to make the sale.

Several Argentine outlets have been pointing out that the Millonarios are in huge need of money (no pun intended), and newspaper Clarin brings a very good story about it today.

Despite having a great squad which won the Copa Libertadores last year, River had a loss of 500 million pesos, and Sosa’s transfer to the Toffees should help them with that.

Clarin claims that Everton are ready to pay the player’s €15m release clause. That’s equivalent to 762 million pesos, which would cover the debts from 2018.

But River’s board are still being cautious before trusting this deal, since they’re still waiting for the player to get a work permit.

An update on Clarin’s website claims Sosa’s agent is currently in London trying to sort out the issue.

Meanwhile, it seems both Everton and River Plate hope things are done soon.
