Antoine Griezmann had a great season last time around with Atletico Madrid, made himself a national hero at Euro 2016, and has started the current season looking like he didn’t stop playing football in the summer.

Most of the world’s biggest clubs would like to sign the player, but he’s clearly very happy at Atletico Madrid. The change may come when Diego Simeone leaves the Spanish club, and the Argentine manager recently reduced his contract so it ends in June 2018.

Patience may be the key. What may well help Manchester United, if and when they make a move for Griezmann, is the growing friendship between the Atletico star and Paul Pogba. The footballers grew close over the summer, and that’s led to Griezmann keeping an eye out for Manchester United’s matches.

Griezmann’s interest in the Old Trafford club can’t be a bad thing, but it would obviously help if they were winning matches, trophies, and Pogba doing superbly.

There’s plenty of time.

Speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe, Griezmann said: “We get on very well. It is true that Euros has brought us closer together still. Paul is a really nice guy. He is it!

“We send messages, Snapchats. He’s really a good friend…When he plays with his club, I try to look at it to see if he had a good game or not.”
