Tottenham Hotspur’s Richarlison has impressed for Brazil at the World Cup, netting three goals from three matches. This includes a goal in Seleção’s win over South Korea, which helped them seal a berth in the quarter-final of the tournament.

The Spurs forward has been hailed as one of the best in his position by his former coach, Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian managed the Tottenham player for over a year at Everton, a club which he left to join the north London club in the summer transfer window.

Corriere dello Sport had a chat with the current Real Madrid coach and asked whether the 25-year-old is a champion, similar to Gonzalo Higuaín or Antonio Cassano. Ancelotti did not coach the latter, while he managed Higuaín at Napoli.

Responding to that, Ancelotti said: “Something in between, right? He is a modern striker, complete, not up to his feet, but he has fantastic tempo in the box and is very coordinated. He’s not a giant, but his head is strong. He’s not the typical Brazilian striker, but I put him among the best around.”

The Tottenham forward is able to operate across all three attacking positions. Ancelotti is of the belief the traditional No.9 are being replaced by the likes of those similar to Antonio Conte’s man.

“We are in a transition phase, especially for the forwards. Ibra and Ronaldo are running out, Suarez, Cavani, Messi and Benzema are 35 years old, Lewandowski will make them next year,” the Real Madrid manager explained.

“The new one is represented by Mbappé, Richarlison, Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Darwin Nuñez. I didn’t know Gonçalo Ramos.”
