Jose Mourinho had a very interesting Saturday.
The manager saw his team fall to a 2-0 deficit to lowly Newcastle United and then struggle to get back into the game.
Once Juan Mata’s goal went in for the home side, to make the score 2-1, a belief which had been absent seemed to grow, and then when Anthony Martial got the equaliser it was just a question of whether there’d be enough time for the winner.
Alexis Sanchez made sure there was, getting the all important goal in the 90th minute.
It’s some good news but it hasn’t lifted the cloud around Old Trafford completely, and Mourinho’s position is still under question.
Zinedine Zidane has been the man most linked with potentially taking over, even if the links feel like they’ve been built through assumption.
Last week, Christophe Dugarry was insistent Zidane won’t be making the move: “Zizou won’t go to Manchester. I’m telling you, he won’t go to Manchester.”
Now, the manager’s agent has spoken about the situation, and whilst he admits there’s been a discussion about the possible move, it’s again a negative conclusion.
Speaking to JDD, and quoted by Le10, Alain Migliaccio, has said: “Manchester United? I don’t think he’ll go to England to train. It’s less his style. I discussed it with him, it does not really attract him.”
That may well be that.
