That Manchester City are interested in Jean-Michael Seri isn’t exactly a secret anymore.
In mid-January, Le Parisien reported that Pep Guardiola had ‘commissioned’ a meeting with the Nice midfielder’s agent with regards to a potential transfer to the Premier League leaders, a claim backed up a day later by L’Equipe.
A winter transfer never happened for the Ivory Coast international, but there’s every chance this could be his last season in Ligue 1, as a move at the end of the campaign looks more and more likely after a potential deal taking him to Barcelona last summer fell through.
One of the reasons the 26-year-old might also want to go elsewhere is his wages, as L’Equipe reveal on Tuesday that Seri, one of the club’s key players, is only the 6th best paid player at the club, on a wage of around £20k/week.
He earns five times less than Mario Balotelli, and players like Alassane Pléa and 20-year-old summer signing Allan Saint-Maximin are all ahead of him in the wage chart.
A move to Manchester City (or any other big European club) could easily see him earn around £100k/week, and while that isn’t all there is to it, it’s certainly something for him to look forward to when his exit finally happens.
