Since moving to Barcelona at the end of the January window, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has scored four La Liga goals and one in the Europa League.

The switch is working out very well for the player and his new club, and Arsenal are also in a good position following the transfer.

It looks like one of those moves that can be presented positively by everyone involved, and it’s helped strengthen Mikel Arteta at the Premier League club.

Friday’s edition of Sport has a little snippet on how the deal happened, and they credit agent Inaki Ibanez with playing a big part. The representative has long had a good relationship with Arteta, and the Catalan newspaper say he used that to push the move through.

Sport explain: ‘At the request of Mateu Alemany, who contacted him to ask him to help facilitate the operation, Ibanez called Arteta and asked him not to hinder Aubameyang’s departure. That’s how it was: that call was decisive for the Gabonese striker to be definitively separated from Arsenal and be able to sign for Barca as a free agent on the last day of the market.’

That feels like someone has perhaps been overplaying their role in the move.

Arteta was unlikely to try and hinder the move anyway, and it was simply a case of Arsenal agreeing with Aubameyang on how his contract with them would be terminated.
