Spending last season on loan from Atalanta at Pescara in Serie B, few in England will have ever seen Christian Capone play unless they’ve been watching Italy’s U20s and, more recently, U21s.
We aren’t going to lie to you and say that we have, because we most certainly haven’t, but two clubs in the Premier League are currently following him: Liverpool and Chelsea.
This is what Corriere dello Sport are reporting on Thursday, a couple of days after the 19-year-old winger came on against France’s U21s and scored 22 seconds later.
Liverpool have a bit of a history with Capone, having apparently followed him since he was 16, and are continuing to do so.
Chelsea, on the other hand, only put his name down on their list during that game, having originally come to watch other players, such as centre-back Gianluca Mancini (Atalanta), winger Vittorio Parigini (Torino) and Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.
At club level, Capone did well at Pescara last season, scoring seven goals and picking up three assists in 26 appearances, and this will leave Atalanta with a bit of a problem: what to do with him next season.
Corriere wonder whether they’ll keep him, send him on loan again or listen to offers if they come in.
One to keep an eye on.
