On loan from Valencia at Inter, Joao Cancelo is available to the Italian club at €35m if they so wish, thanks to a clause in the deal.

Helped by the fact Geoffrey Kondogbia is currently with the Spanish club and can be bought for €25m, something could be worked out that helps everyone with Financial Fair Play.

However, Corriere dello Sport on Thursday claim that the relationship between the two sides isn’t the best right now, as Inter aren’t happy with Valencia’s pressing to get a deal done for Cancelo in January, which has led to Jorge Mendes shopping his client around, notably to Manchester United.

The Italian newspaper state the super agent has already ‘made moves’ with other clubs, ‘among which’ are the Red Devils, a club desperate for new full-backs.

With Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind (if you see him as a left-back) all seemingly on their way out of the club, José Mourinho will be left with Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo (at a push) for the two positions, which isn’t great.

Considering Mino Raiola doesn’t have any full-backs of note in his client database, Jorge Mendes is the next best thing, especially since he also manages the Manchester United manager’s affairs, so it’s no surprise for him to be offering the Special One some players he might be interested in.

Of course, this could also just be a ploy to get Inter to pay up for fear of missing out on a player they actually like.

We’ve seen that happen many times before.
