With West Ham United’s attempt to sign Ruben Amorim still a subject in the Portuguese media, even José Mourinho was now asked about the manager’s future.
The Special One is attending an event today and had a conversation with the local press. When asked about the Sporting boss, he shared his admiration, and the quotes come from Mais Futebol.
“It’s also a question I shouldn’t answer, but what can I tell you? I like him as a person, I like him as a coach. I think he’s capable of coaching in any league and he’s capable of coaching at any club. But he’s in a good league and he’s at a great club.
“It’s his decision and it will be, or not, up to the clubs that want him or don’t want him or want to convince him, with more or less arguments. What’s clear from me is that I like the person and I like the coach.”
With Ruben Amorim admitting that his trip to speak to West Ham was a mistake, the Portuguese media no longer believes the Hammers are candidates to take the manager out of Sporting but that could obviously change.
The Lions are one step from winning the league, and could also win the cup in a final against Porto at the end of the month, so there’s a lot to focus on before the coach decides his future.
Even though being in the Premier League with West Ham is surely not a bad job, the Lisbon press has been pointing out that Amorim could stay at a club where he’s already settled, having just won the league and taking part in the Champions League next season.
