Swansea City midfielder Adnan Maric has told the Swedish media he was in talks to sign for Hammarby last year.

The 21 year old joined the Premier League side in 2015, but is still waiting to make his Premier League debut.

Speaking to Fotboll Direkt, Maric was asked about reports he was going to leave Swansea City for Hammarby: “It’s true they wanted to sign me. We met several times but Swansea didn’t want me to leave.”

Maric joined Swansea City from Gais four years ago, and made his debut this season for the Swans when he played the last 12 minutes against Notts County in the FA Cup.

The midfielder was also named on the bench for the FA Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday but didn’t get on the pitch.

Most of Maric’s games have come in the Premier League 2 this season, and last week he scored against Manchester United in Swansea City’s 2-0 victory.

His performance against Manchester United’s U23s was reported on in Sweden with some enthusiasm.

Maric is contracted to Swansea City until June 2020.
