Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo brings a story today saying Manchester United have made a new approach for Antoine Griezmann.
According to their report, Ed Woodward has recently asked about the Frenchman’s situation again, but didn’t hear the answer he expected.
Griezmann’s entourage would have told Woodward that the player’s future ‘is in Barça’s hands’ after the agreement in principle they have with the Catalan club.
Barcelona would have a verbal agreement both with Griezmann’s entourage and with Atletico Madrid, all in order to get ahead of the competition, which would include Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid as well.
As a Catalan paper, it’s no surprise that Mundo Deportivo are favouring Barça in their story. Griezmann’s entourage may have been in contact with the Catalan side, but saying that he’s in the club’s hands sounds a bit too much.
Paying his €100m release clause is all that’s needed to take him from Atletico Madrid next summer.
Griezmann to Barcelona links started off as the Catalan media were working their way through Philippe Coutinho alternatives. Manchester United claims have looked far strong over the past year, including repeated hints from the player himself.
Less than a month ago the Spanish press was full of claims that Griezmann’s hints over Manchester United had turned Atletico fans against him. The Frenchman had been going through some poor form, and ‘messages of love’ the player sent to Mourinho’s club last summer had come back to haunt him, with fans not so supportive.
A few good performances and they love him again now.
