Turkish website Ajansspor claim Stoke City left back Erik Pieters has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Fenerbahce.
Fotospor also report Pieter’s agent Hakim Slimani has offered the Stoke City player to Fenerbahce, and the Turkish club are now planning to meet with the player’s representative in the coming weeks.
Fenerbahce are familiar with Slimani after the Turkish side worked with them over Gregory van der Wiel’s transfer to Cagliari in the summer, and it’s suggested the Pieters proposition could be related to a fee outstanding for that.
The Turkish club are in the market for a left back in January, given Hasan Ali Kaldirim and İsmail Koybasi have struggled for form this season. In recent weeks they’ve been linked with Chelsea duo Baba Rahman and Kenedy, but it now seems they’ve switched their attention to Pieters.
However, Fenerbahce may find it difficult to sign him because he’s a regular first team player for Stoke City and the Dutchman is also under contract with the English side until 2020.
The Stoke City defender has been a regular in Mark Hughes’ side this season, and has started all the club’s Premier League games.
Pieters last contract extension at Stoke City was almost 2 years ago, and perhaps it’s time the 29 year old was given a boost.
