On Monday, when the Portuguese press reported that Lisandro Lopez was unsatisfied with his situation at Benfica, we pointed out it could be a good second chance for Newcastle United to get him.
The Magpies were said to be interested in the 28-year-old during the summer, but apparently couldn’t reach the figures demanded by the Eagles.
Even with the departure of Victor Lindelof and no replacements signed, the Argentine defender is struggling to find a place in the starting team, and even his agent said he’s living a ‘weird’ situation at the club.
There has been no news like this in the past few days, so it’s very likely that someone from the newspaper read our story and mistranslated it, thinking it meant a new approach from the Magpies.
Anyway, the interesting part is they’re claiming that although Newcastle couldn’t pay the €10m demanded by Benfica in the summer, it’s very likely that the price will go down and make the move more possible this time.
That’s good news for whoever is interested in the defender, but A Bola has some even more optimistic information about the case.
They claim that Lopez is so desperate to play that he should indeed be leaving the club in January, and even a loan deal is being considered.
Since the newspaper doesn’t mention who wants to take him, there shouldn’t be a big competition going on. But his agent will certainly be looking for pretenders in the January market, and a loan deal could be quite a good opportunity showing up at Newcastle’s door.
