The Spanish media are already looking towards the next summer transfer window, and when the Catalan newspapers aren’t picking out targets for Real Madrid, with the hope they can then celebrate a failure to sign them, they’re going for Barcelona possibilities.
On Sunday, Manchester United’s Anthony Martial graced the cover of Mundo Deportivo, and Monday’s cover star is Antoine Griezmann.
It’s claimed the Atletico Madrid player is Barcelona’s number one target, and they’d hope to get a deal sorted out before the World Cup.
Griezmann’s release clause will be back down to €100m next summer, having doubled for the last window when Atletico got their ban, and the Frenchman agreed to stay for an extra year, getting a pay rise in the process.
Mundo Deportivo accept Griezmann is still a target of Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, on the club’s ‘agenda’ of signings, but they believe the player’s contentment in Spain could swing things Barcelona’s way.
Griezmann’s wife is Spanish, something Mundo clearly feel will play in La Liga’s favour.
Turning 27 years of age in March, next summer looks primed for an Atletico exit, and he’d probably have left already, for Manchester United, had the transfer ban been reduced.
A release clause of €100m is looking increasingly good value.
