Seemingly intent on leaving Burnley over the summer, Steven Defour’s situation at Turf Moor has changed for the better, with the midfielder now back in the Belgium set up.
Already called up for the last set of international but remaining on the bench, the Terriers’ player would ideally like to get on the pitch this time around, as he made clear with the local press.
Relayed by DH, Steven Defour said: “Maybe I’ll get the chance to play, yes. I’m ready. And if the occasion presents itself, I have to take it”.
With Roberto Martinez choosing not to call up Radja Nainggolan, much to the fans’ and media’s ire, the Burnley midfielder’s chance of playing could be increased, even if he doesn’t think he’s profited from the AS Roma star’s absence.
As for his situation at Burnley, the Belgium international appears to be happy, especially with the change in philosophy Sean Dyche has tried to implement this season.
“This summer’s preseason was different. We have players who can keep the ball. We’re still Burnley, so sometimes we don’t have the ball all that much, but when we do have it, we know what to do with it.
“At the moment, I feel good. Of course, we can always improve, but I feel good”, said Defour.
With eight appearances and an assist already under his belt this season, the former Porto midfielder appears to have made amends with his manager, and is on course to becoming one of the key cogs of Dyche’s plan this year.
Not bad for a guy who was open to ‘anything’ at the start of the transfer window.
