In the summer of 2016, Watford signed Camilo Zuniga from Napoli on a loan deal. The agreement included a buying option, which was never triggered as the Colombial failed to impress for the Hornets.
We all thought that Zuniga had gone back to Napoli, he but hasn’t been in the Italian side’s plans for the season, and that’s why he’s still to play for the club since his return.
However, reports from Italy have claimed that the Serie A side believe Zuniga met the requirements for an option to buy to be triggered automatically, and therefore, he should still be a Watford player.
This has been a quite silent confusion, but maybe Zuniga himself has just made it all clear by revealing/claiming he belongs to Watford.
He gave a long interview to Caracol Radio this week, and one of the most surprising quotes came when he was asked about the club he has a contract with.
“With Watford. I have a contract for one more year,” he said.
We even listened to the original interview to double check if it was right, and Zuniga did say he has a contract with the Premier League side.
The rest of the interview was transcribed by Futbolete, and the player confirmed that he’s working to return to Colombia, looking forward to play the World Cup. So he has no intention to play for Watford again, despite the alleged contract.
“The idea in this period is to negotiate with them to achieve the disengagement and to be able to play in Colombian football from the month of January,” Zuniga told Caracol.
“I thank Atletico Nacional who opened the doors to me in this pause in my career. I hope to get ready to get a good club from January and continue my professional career.”
These quotes will expect a response a statement from Watford and Napoli, who never made the player’s situation clear.
