William Carvalho to AS Monaco could be back on, and the French principality club have a chance of beating transfer rival West Ham… and for less money.
Monaco are in danger of losing Fabinho and will need someone to replace the Brazilian. L’Equipe say that despite reports Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker is close to the move, he’s not actually at the top of Monaco’s list.
That place is reserved for Carvalho who, if hadn’t been for the dramas and dances between West Ham and Sporting, would already be under Slaven Bilic’s control.
Leonardo Jardim is keen on Carvalho, which makes some sense given the manager was at Sporting from 2013-2014 and helped the midfielder breakthrough to being an important player at the club.
L’Equipe take English claims that West Ham have walked away from a transfer due to a €43m asking price. That West Ham stance was called a ‘bluff’ in the Portuguese media, and the French newspaper say Monaco believe they could do a deal more cheaply.
Carvalho would cost Monaco €35m with an additional bonus of €6m, say L’Equipe.
Whilst it’s pointed out the official word from Monaco is that Carvalho is too expensive, even at the lower price, L’Equipe say it’s also the official word that Fabinho isn’t for sale, and they clearly don’t believe either.
Claims in the Portuguese press that other Premier League clubs are now rivalling West Ham could be a bluff, but it appears they have genuine rivals elsewhere.
