Former West Bromwich Albion defender Jonas Olsson has refused to comment on speculation he could be returning to England with Ipswich Town.

The former Sweden international has been linked with the Championship side this week after Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy travelled to Sweden last weekend on a scouting trip.

Speaking to Fotboll Direkt, the Djurgården player was asked about rumours he could be signing for Ipswich Town: “I know him (McCarthy) a bit since his time with Wolverhampton when I was at West Brom, but there’s nothing I want to comment on.”

Last Sunday, McCarthy attended the game between Djurgården and Halmstad at the Tele2 Arena, with claims in the Swedish media the Ipswich Town boss was casting an eye on Olsson.

The veteran defender signed for Djurgården in January from West Brom, but could be set for a quick return to England.

Olsson spent eight seasons at West Brom after joining the club from Dutch side NEC in 2008. However, the 33-year-old was reduced to handful of game in the first half of last season by West Brom manager Tony Pulis, which ultimately signalled the end of the player’s time at the Hawthorns.
