Because losing out to Manchester United for Romelu Lukaku wasn’t enough, it seems the nerves of Chelsea fans are being tested once more, this time over the arrival of a midfielder.
Late on Friday afternoon, after Tiémoué Bakayoko took pictures of Cobham for his Instagram, news broke from France that the player’s move to Chelsea was being ‘blocked’ for the time being.
The news came from Bilel Ghazi, one of L’Equipe’s journalists, who claimed on L’Equipe Mercato, a program on the newspaper’s TV channel that, as things stood, Bakayoko was yet to pass his medical for the Premier League side, which should have already taken place.
The reason? Well, it’s not 100% clear, as there’s sa lot of blaming going around, but the journalist explained Chelsea feel the delay is Monaco’s fault, with the Ligue 1 side apparently failing to send them some of the relevant paperwork.
He went on to say the Blues were starting to ask themselves a few questions about the whole deal, as they hadn’t been given a reason by Monaco for the delay, but tried to reassure everyone by saying everything could change in an instant.
On the other side of the fence, competing outlet RMC Sport, via Mohamed Bouhafsi on Twitter, claimed the player will sign his Chelsea contract tonight, having passed his medical on Friday morning, with just the final details between Bakayoko and his new club being ironed out.
Let’s see what happens.
