Someone is leaking claims of interest in Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The picture set by Bild is as follows: Dortmund may have to worry once again about their defence, with Manchester United and Chelsea ‘hot’ on Sokratis. Both English clubs are very keen, and both scouted him at the DFB Pokal Final, with both left ‘convinced’.
Bild then throw in a few statistics, just to show how fabulous the 29 year old was last season, perhaps talking Sokratis up beyond his actual level.
Here’s some more statistics: Sokratis is 29, his contract ends in June 2019, by which time he’ll be 31.
This is very much the time to be fishing for a new contract, rather than in a year when he’s 30, may not have had the most prominent of seasons under a new manager, and his value has dropped to BVB.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and all the other clubs who may be dragged in, could suddenly think Sokratis is the man for them, it’s possible, or this could be a public, and slightly clumsy, play for a renewal.
