In August, UOL stated Chelsea had reached an agreement with Grêmio to sign youngster Gabriel Mec.
It was also reported the Blues had offered a deal around €24m including bonuses for the 16-year-old.
Globo Esporte now brings the latest on Gabriel Mec.
They state the Premier League side proposed a deal in August which would see the overall fee rise to €24m for the attacking midfielder. They had agreed a deal with Grêmio, but the contracts haven’t been signed so far.
Globo have found out from Grêmio that Enzo Maresca’s side have ‘backed away’ from this operation. That’s because Chelsea have doubts over investing on his signing, after watching some of his more recent performances.
Chelsea have decided to follow him closely and haven’t completely given up yet. There are some within the South American club who believe the deal with the Premier League side won’t happen.
Grêmio have opened talks with other European clubs for Gabriel Mec. They have already raised enough money elsewhere and are in no rush to agree a deal for the teenager.
Globo add the English club are also not in a hurry, considering he won’t be able to arrive in Europe until he turns 18 years of age in April 2026.
