Jurgen Klopp’s arrival at Red Bull could end up affecting Leeds United, with the Championship side also in his sights.
That’s according to BILD, who cover what the former Liverpool man will be doing for his new employers and how that may affect the Championship side.
For those that don’t know, Red Bull have a minority share in Leeds United after buying into them earlier this year as well as sponsoring the front of their shirts. Unlike the other clubs they own, Leeds were allowed to keep their name and badge.
And, interestingly, that means they will also fall under Klopp’s stewardship after he was announced as Red Bull’s new head of global soccer earlier this week.
He’s set to take up the role from January after resigning from coaching earlier this year, bringing an end to his nine-year reign at Liverpool in the process.
He’ll be the highest-ranking football official at RB and has been tasked with overseeing the six professional clubs they own, Leipzig, Salzburg, Leeds (where they own 10%), New York, Bragantino and Omiya Ardija. There is also a ‘training club’, Liefering.
Klopp is set to bring ‘his expertise, his experience and his network’ according to the newspaper, creating a role that will be a mix of ‘strategist, analyst and advisor’ when it comes to ‘transfers, coaches and development’ of the clubs.
He is essentially a successor to Ralf Rangnick, who left in 2020 following a year as Head of Sport and Development for Soccer’.
That will see him wielding his power when the time is right, and Leeds, despite only being a minority in the Red Bull structure, will be a part of that.
Whether that means big changes for the Championship side or a quiet word in Daniel Farke’s ear from time to time, remains to be seen.
