Chelsea’s belief that Joao Félix is the answer to their forward problems is ‘frightening’, with the player’s impending return from Atlético Madrid raising questions.

That’s according to journalist Emilio Pérez de Rozas, who cannot believe that the Blues have moved to bring back the Portuguese forward.

Félix is on the verge of making a permanent return to Chelsea, with reports in England indicating he has already signed his deal after undergoing a medical with the Blues.

His move is a part of negotiations with Atlético, who are also on the verge of signing Conor Gallagher in a separate deal.

The move has left many perplexed, with pundits and fans unconvinced that Félix is the forward that will solve the current gap in Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Instead, he appears to just be the latest addition in what has become a messy transfer plan at Chelsea that’s continued to see players arriving despite an already bloated squad on the books.

The move is even more perplexing given Félix hardly shined at Barcelona last season or during a loan spell at Chelsea in the second half of 2023.

And that is why Pérez de Rozas is having none of it, laying into Chelsea and Atlético when discussing the transfer today.

“This story begins with Atlético Madrid presenting the ‘new Messi’ of the world,” he said.

“And now Atlético has managed to sell him for less than half of what he cost, and we consider it to be sensational management. This entire period is linked to Atlético Madrid.

“It is obvious that his performance is fundamentally to blame. In fact, if we look at it twice, it is frightening that someone of the level of Chelsea and its directors or coach believe that this boy can become the revelation of the Premier League.”
