It’s all gone quiet on the Pontus Jansson front. After almost certainly ambitious, shall we say, claims that clubs including Chelsea and Tottenham are interested in the Leeds United defender, the Swedish media and the player’s agent have had a period of calm.
However, The Daily Express reported on Wednesday ‘Sky Sports say Monk now faces a struggle to sign Jansson permanently’.
It’s a crucial difference, because it needs making clear the power rests with Leeds United. The Championship club confirmed they’d agreed a permanent deal in February, with Jansson, for all intents and purposes, being a permanent Leeds United player: ‘Leeds United are thrilled to confirm that centre-back Pontus Jansson will join the club on a permanent deal when his loan expires this summer.
‘The 25-year-old has agreed a three-year contract, tying him at Elland Road until at least the end of the 2019/20 season.’
There is absolutely no suggestion from Torino that they still have any power, and Jansson can reject Leeds, leading the Italian club to negotiate with others. And if there was a chance, the very good local Granata media would be all over it.
In Italy it was reported in February that Leeds United had paid Torino €4m for the player.
This one is settled, if Jansson wants out then it’s down to Leeds United to negotiate.
