When you’ve made 169 appearances for Celtic, you’d expect to be at least a member of the club’s first-team in some shape or form, but in Efe Ambrose’s case, that just didn’t happen this season.
The 28-year-old defender, who joined the Scottish Premiership champions in 2012, only made two appearances for the club under Brendan Rodgers during the current campaign, both in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.
This continued exposure to first-team football has caught the eye of two clubs, according to OwnGoalNigeria, who claim both OGC Nice in France and Brighton Hove & Albion in England are considering making a move for the player.
Offered to Brighton last week, Ambrose has yet to hear from Chris Hughton’s side, who are said to be mulling over the possibility of offering him a contract in the next month or so.
Ambrose’s contract with Celtic is due to run out at the end of the month, meaning Brighton could pick him up on a free transfer as they look to bolster their squad for next season following their promotion to the Premier League.
As for Nice, they have already qualified for the Champions League qualifiers, and could be an interesting option for the 28-year-old, even if his chances of being a regular there are small.
One thing is certain, and that is his future appears to be somewhere other than Celtic Park.
